Intermediate Interior Designer

MCM Interiors Ltd. (MCMI), is a multi-faceted and dynamic design studio based in Vancouver, B.C. which is known to produce award winning and quality design projects.  We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and enthusiastic Intermediate Interior Designer to join our team to help grow our studio and collaborate on some exciting projects. 

Job Summary

This posting is for a full time, in office (permitting local Health Regulations) interior design position in Vancouver BC.  The ideal candidate will be someone who works well with clients, contractors, and the local authorities, under limited supervision of the Design Principal and/or the Senior Interior Designer

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Design Lead to formulate preliminary space plans and produce two- and three-dimensional design concepts that are functional, within budget and aesthetically pleasing

  • Prepare working drawings and assist with specifications for interior construction, space planning, materials, finishes, furniture, furnishings, fixtures, equipment and millwork

  • Collaborate with other consultants who offer professional services in the technical areas of mechanical, electrical and structural design as well as any specialty consultants as directed by Senior Designer

  • Administer contract documents, bids and negotiations as the client’s consultant

  • Prepare permit and tender documents

  • Carry out construction administration services

  • Understand of project fees and client budgets

  • Train and supervise junior designers

Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as an Interior Designer working on commercial projects

  • Degree or Diploma in Interior Design

  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills required to undertake multiple projects or facets of various projects

  • Understand and have working knowledge of materials and products that will be used to create and furnish the space and how texture, colour, lighting and other factors combine and interact to make a space.

  • Comfortable meeting and dealing with architects, contractors, other consultants, other interior designers, material suppliers and specifiers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Works well in both teams and individually

  • Software/Technology knowledge: AutoCAD 2018 & higher, 3D Software knowledge preferred (Sketchup or 3DMax), Microsoft Office 2010 (including Excel), Presentation Software (Power Point and/or Photoshop)

  • Good working knowledge of Provincial Building Code

  • Working toward NCDIQ, WELL, or LEED  ertification or AP accreditation an asset.
